The bore size, shape and flow rate of the Air Intake manifolds can make a large effect on to fuel atomisation on the Type R. It is the main goal to any engine tuning task to force more air into your Type RĪir Intake manifolds transmit the air during the suck phase from the filter and allow it to be pulled into the engine cylinders. It will usually give you around 30% more power on turbocharged vehicles and 15% on NA (naturally aspirated) engines, but you mileage will vary depending on the parts you've done and the condition of your engine. (In some cases, as the factory ECU is locked flashing is not an option, so an aftermarket ECU is the route to take, and many of these will outperform factory ECU's but make sure it has knock protection and that you get it setup properly.) Mapping will help unlock the full potential of all the parts you've fitted to your Type R. The Type R engines make great tuning projects and thanks to their popularity there is a lot of parts and tuning parts around. This produced a car able to accelerate to 60 mph in a little over 6 seconds, a feat which many cars today will struggle to achieve. The engine modifications included higher compression pistons, polished ports, stiffer valve springs and tune/remap to optimize the timing of the engine. Typical stage 3 mods often include: Crank and Piston upgrades to alter compression, Competition cam, Internal engine upgrades (head flowing porting/bigger valves), Engine balancing & blueprinting, Adding or Upgrading forced induction (turbo/supercharger), Twin charging conversions. Typical stage 2 mods often include: Ported and polished head, Fast road cam, high flow fuel injectors, fuel pump upgrades, induction kit, Sports catalyst & performance exhaust. Typical stage 1 mods often include: Panel air filters, Sports exhaust header/manifold, Fast road camshaft, drilled & smoothed airbox, Remaps/piggy back ECU, Intake manifolds.
